Session I: Schloss St. Martin, located in the lush, green southwest area of Austria's
second largest city of Graz, allows for an outdoor retreat within the city. The Renaissance Castle, originally dating from 1638, is surrounded by wooded mountians and a multitude of wander paths. Nestled in the midst of an organic garden and fruit tree plantation (where our food comes from!), the castle itself, with its spires and inviting courtyard, including Linden tree and fountain, and breath-taking views from every window, allow for much inspiration and relaxation in the midst of the intense work schedule at LAI.The architectural beauty and surrounding views transport us into the wonderful world of Classical-Romantic Lieder.
Session II: Schloss Retzhof, with its inviting architectural beauty and stately high ceilinged rooms, whose doors and windows open onto a balcony overlooking the park, provides a natural habitat for our work with the Classical-Romantic Lied repertoire. The surrounding area lets us experience the world of Lieder first hand as it still mirrors the magic of the poetic settings, even after 200 years. Book knowledge and imagination become direct daily reality. The courtyard, dating from 1550, with its tall shading maple tree in the center and small babbling fountain in the corner, transforms breaks and study into truly relaxing and inspirational moments. The adjacent guest house allows for no time loss between work and rest.
Where we eat and enjoy:
Austria at its best
The award winning kitchens of both Schloss St. Martin and Schloss Retzhof specialize in fine Austrian cuisine using locally grown organic products. The Chefs take personal pride in the Austrian cooking tradition.
Where we go and relax:
Styrian Tuscany, "a piece of paradise"
Leibnitz, the charming county seat of Southern Styria, is built on the relics of its Roman predecessor Flavia Solva. The region is often called the Styrian Tuscany. Why try to describe the inspiring beauty of this cheerful land with its gracious people, its picturesque vineyards and red-tile-roofed farm houses - when looking at some pictures will give you a much better idea: until - you come and see for yourself. As for the city buffs: Graz, Styria's capital and second largest city in Austria, is just a good thirty minute train ride away . . .
Find yourself in an environment that still breathes the Romantic world of Lieder.
